Horseshoe Bend

Horseshoe Bend, our second stop of the trip, is just a short drive from Antelope Canyon. The hike begins at the parking lot, up a sandy path to the viewing area that sits 4,200 feet above sea level. I own an Amazon Firestick and on the slideshow there is a photo of Horse Shoe Bend. Every time I see the photo I wonder if it really looks like that or if the photo is filtered. Happy to say: it was everything I expected AND MORE!

Far below (1,000 FEET BELOW) flows the green and blue water in the shape of a horse shoe that started as an incised meander which eventually grew larger with flash floods and heavy rains. I actually questioned whether or not it was man made because it’s so perfect!

Over the years, there have been multiple fatalities from tourists falling over the ledge. This is usually a result of getting too close, losing balance or trying to get that insta-worthy photo. They recently started building a fence along the edge to keep tourists away. Luckily for us, only 1/4 was complete so we were still able to CAUTIOUSLY take bomb pics.

It’s a quick stop; maybe thirty minutes tops. Just enough to soak in the views and take a couple pics. The fence will be up in no time. Although I want everyone to be safe; the fence will take away from the nature and beauty. Glad we saw it when we did! We loaded back in the jeep and headed for Zion!
